On his eighth birthday, guitarist Rolf van Meurs had a wish… a guitar! From that moment on, the guitar has been an integral part of his life! After high school he studied classical music at the conservatoire in Tilburg, specialising in guitar. First under the guidance of Tom Burmanje and later under Enno Voorhorst. He also studied flamenco with Maurice Leenaars. In 2012, he received his Bachelor’s degree with a 9.5. In the same year, Rolf began his Master’s studies at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven with Raphaella Smits. His study focused on the romantic ‘Stauffer’ guitar and on the life of Luigi Legnani. In 2014 he obtained his master’s degree with high distinction.
As a crowning achievement of his research into the life of Luigi Legnani, Rolf released a CD with some of his unknown compositions with the aim of being able to present this music to the widest possible audience. And with success. Rolf was a guest on several radio programmes including ‘Opium’ and ‘Podium’ on Radio 4, as well as giving a Legnani concert in Copenhagen at the ‘Dansk guitar Selskab’.
In November 2015 he played Concierto de Aranjuez by J. Rodrigo twice with the Orchestra of Utrecht.

The online guitar concert will be opened by Flavio Banni from Italy. He studies in Maastricht with Carlo Marchione. He won the first prize at the 17th edition of “Riviera Etrusca” in Piombino. Banni is praised for his interpretation of romantic music. He actively collaborates with composers and rediscovers manuscripts dedicated to Segovia.
